Hoped for rain after Saturday’s ride but this was not to be, opened the door to a glorious morning in Florida – good day for a ride. Cyclists assembled from 7:25 a.m. Adam, Howard (smiling in his Michigan jersey), Jeff, Bob (with a nice power meter) and Joe on a tri bike. Joined by Anguilla, another ‘Jeff’ and a new face Alberto. Waited for Pete until 7:45 a.m. before we left (heard after from Debbie that he came late).
I remember explaining to Alberto (big guy) that we ride around 22 mph, his comment was that was too slow (he was about to eat these words
Warm-up lap was brisk, 21 to 23 variations seemed to be the order of the day, after lap one it was Alberto’s turn and he picked it up to 25 and opened for Joe picked it up even further, we dropped 3 cyclists in less than 30 seconds,
“other Jeff”, Bob and Alberto came out as the pace picked up to 26 mph for while. Joe was strong, steady and determined; we hung on. At the end of lap two Jeff showed some form with a short sprint – we re-grouped with about 4 or 5 cyclists into the 3rd. Passed a bunch of cyclists and picked up Cameroon and the two youngsters from Columbia (brothers, one with a ‘bottle-head’ helmet).
Cyclists were joining us as we went along a fast pace, picked up USF Prof and Alberto (he was lapped). Into lap 4 and we brought down the pace for a while, recovering, Joe picked it up after the Morris Bridge turn, pace was 23/24 over clay gully bridge. Nothing much was happening, everything as all too quiet so I decided to start the sprint early before the bend, took it up to 29 mph, others caught and passed, saw Jeff and Adam having some fun with Cameroon and others.
All in all another great ride. Specs: 4 laps, 22.8 mph
Enjoy your week.
Roger
